Margaret B. Jones was born and raised in Homestead, Florida and has enjoyed boating and fishing her entire life. At an early age, her Uncle Rick had her out in the boat. It was through these adventures that she began to develop her love for fishing & diving. Margaret recalls leaving the boat dock before the sun came up and returning at sunset. “We always got in a full day of fishing and never returned empty handed. Although I was usually the only girl in the group, I never received special treatment and like it that way.”

Margaret graduated from the University of Mississippi, home of the “Ole Miss Rebels”, in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Risk Management. After graduating, she moved back to Homestead where she dove head first into the family business.  Her grandfather, Randy Jones, started T.R. Jones & Company, an insurance brokerage and consulting firm,  in 1947. The business is now run by her father, Thomas R. Jones, Jr.. Both Margaret and her brother, Hamilton, have joined the agency. “It is wonderful to work with my family everyday. Now that my brother has joined us he has definitely brought out my competitive side.”

Fishing and boating continues to be a huge part of Margaret’s life. Her family spent their summers in the Florida Keys which allowed her plenty of time to experience different types of fishing. She has caught red fish, snook, trout, and tarpon in the back country as well as dolphin, tuna, permit, and yellow tail offshore. Margaret has come to prefer offshore fishing and was excited to catch her first sailfish last year aboard the Steel Magnolia. “I had been sailfishing many times. Somedays we just did not have any luck. When the sailfish were biting, it seems someone else always grabbed the rod when the big one took the bait. It was great to have Capt. Greg help me catch my first sailfish. He also got my sister and cousin their first fish as well”

Margaret looks forward to fishing many tournaments aboard the Steel Magnolia. The Roberts Family has become an extension of her own and she can’t say enough about their generosity.
